The Founding of Girls for Girls, NGO

​

First founded by three American sisters, GirlsforGirls, NGO is a federally registered, Maryland-based, tax exempt non-profit organization that strives to educate, empower, and provide opportunities to disadvantaged girls all around the world. We hope to galvanize individuals to take action and effectuate change to global challenges. It is part of our mission to mobilize youth into facilitating and engaging in global discussions about women's rights, gender equality, girls empowerment, as well as other humanitarian crisis.

 

Yemeni Civil War

We also strongly believe in sharing our voices on issues that we feel passionate about. We have focused on the Civil War in Yemen, which is considered one of the biggest humanitarian emergencies, as parents are being forced to watch their children starve to death due to severe malnourishment. This war has pushed a country of 29 million into a dangerous famine with cruel effects on innocent populations. A third of Yemen’s population, 8.4 million people completely rely on food aid in order to avoid starvation. Over the past year, this number has grown by more than 25%. 2.9 million Yemeni women and children are acutely malnourished, while another 400,000 children are fighting for their lives. We believe in peaceful settlement over endless war, especially when it is ending the lives of millions of vulnerable and innocent civilians who are barely surviving the seriously devastating famine. Many may have forgotten about this war, but we urge our followers and community not to forget the millions of helpless women and children who continue to suffer from a resolvable conflict over constituting the Yemeni government.   

 

Community Outreach

We have also galvanized several Maryland students to join Girls for Girls in leading a community outreach program across the entire Maryland educational system. We are currently focusing on supporting schools in PGCPS, such as Bladensburg high school, where we held an event to provide donations to underprivelaged student s and families in need.

Yezidi Genocide

​

We are currently working with Ms. Pari Ibrahim, the founder of the Free Yezidi Foundation, in order to support the lives of traumatized Yezidi girls that have managed to escape ISIS territory. On August 3rd of 2014, the Yezidis of Sinjar in Iraq’s Nineveh province were attacked. ISIS began a targeted campaign against the Yezidis, including mass executions, kidnapping, torture, sexual violence, and other egregious human rights abuses. GirlsforGirls is working alongside Pari Ibrahim and the Free Yezidi Foundation in order to advocate for the justice, protection, and fair treatment of the vulnerable Yezidi population. We are continuing to explore ways that we can physically, financially, and psychologically support young girls in need that have been forced to experience the negative effects of this genocide, such as through Letters of Love.

Letters of Love by Girls for Girls, NGO

 

Recently, GirlsforGirls initiated a new project, called Letters of Love, which provides fortunate girls with the opportunity to communicate their support, love, and empowering words towards other girls in need. It also allows girls who have experienced traumatizing events and tragic occurrences to receive kind and empowering words from girls who care about them. Through Letters of Love, girls in the United States will write letters to less fortunate girls in need of empowerment and support. Along with each letter, the girls will attach a donation such as a piece of clothing, school supply, book, or pencil. We plan to send boxes of organized donations comprised of clothes, books, and school supplies to the girls that receive letters. We have galvanized several girls in our community, who have been sending supportive messages to other girls and marginalized who are fighting for their education, rights, and fair opportunities.
